John Tweddle’s artistic commentaries on American life, on display in the West Lobby of NationsBank Plaza, have been described as “biting and poignant.” The Kentucky-born artist is largely self-taught, though he did study at the Kansas City Art Institute and the Atlanta College of Art. His romantic-realist paintings reflect his early life on the road after being born into a trucker’s family. Asked once to name his primary influences, he listed them as “various restaurants, motels, parks, museums, schools, woods, homes, churches, television, at movies, ballgames, parties, galleries, studios, with friends and family — in my fantasies and dreams.”
