Style vs. Content

by John Tweddle

Sometimes style rapes content; but if content overpowers style and form, then it is boring. In Pollack paintings, form and content are chaotic demons destroyed by style, but trying to reemerge. Content is screaming in agony at being murdered by style; then style joins form and together they begin an intense, emotional search for a way to give new shape and content to the desperate subject matter, which feels rejected.
